Introducing Kenner Chiropractor Dr. Paul Tassin

"The thought of doing surgery wearing a 'spacesuit' made me rethink my decision..."

Dr. Paul Tassin analysing the midback. In college, I was taking my pre-medical prerequisites chasing my dream of becoming an Orthopedic Surgeon (even though I didn’t really like the thought of doing surgery). I envisioned having to do surgery wearing something resembling a spacesuit, to avoid contracting any crazy diseases.

While taking the courses, a friend of mine was working for a chiropractor. My friend was able to get me all sorts of “inside” information, including a list of chiropractic colleges. The more I read, the more intrigued I was with chiropractic.

My parents had been chiropractic patients for years. The thought of helping someone without drugs or surgery seemed to be the way to go, the “wave of the future”. In my chiropractic “investigation”, I discovered that the same prerequisites were required for pre-chiropractic and pre-medical, so I was already on my way!

I went to Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena, TX. I was engaged and trying to complete my doctorate at the same time. Pasadena was the closest chiropractic college around. The education I received at the “closest” school was unbelievable. I learned so much anatomy, biomechanics, pathology, and so on, that it was almost overwhelming at times. Who knew that to be a chiropractor, you had to learn the same stuff that a medical doctor had to learn!

Our school even had an out studies program that allowed us to do rounds with medical students. We observed lots of different surgeries and procedures while doing rounds. You’d never believe which one made me sick!

Our philosophy is to serve patients with nothing but quality care. We don’t make you wait for care. We strive to get you better so that you can get back to life! Whether your life is playing with your grandchildren, gardening or playing sports, we want you to live it to the fullest pain free! Our patient’s  age range is from 6 weeks to “I’d rather not say how old I am”. Even Eeyore needs adjustments.

I feel like I connect well with children, whether they are the patient, or just with the patient. My staff sometimes thinks I’ve lost my mind. I put the kids at ease, which in turn puts the parents at ease.

I especially enjoy working with athletes, young or old. I can relate to them because I am also an athlete. Seeing an injured athlete get back to their sport, is probably one of the most fulfilling parts of my job!

I have been married to my wonderful wife Stacy since 1992. She has given me two beautiful (and feisty) daughters, Sarah and Grace. We love to go grab a coffee and go to the zoo or French Market on the weekend. As our girls have gotten older, they have played soccer, volleyball, basketball and softball, so many of our weekends are spent cheering for the team and serving refreshments.

I am very active and enjoy my hobbies - triathlon racing and adventure racing. Some of the races are long endurance races. I originally started training and racing when my children were very young. It allowed me to get up and train while they were asleep and still be back early enough to enjoy the day with them at the zoo or game. My wife recently joined me in training and racing so it has become something that we can do together. I try to stay in the best shape that I can. I can’t very well tell you to do something that I wouldn’t do. The training, I do for the triathlons and adventure racing consists of swimming, biking, running and canoeing. I do at least one of these activities most days of the week. I drink lots of water throughout the day. Of course, I do live in the New Orleans area, so my eating habits are not always the best. I do try to watch what I eat and fast several times a year to allow my body to function like it should.

My goal in chiropractic college was to be the best adjuster. Although that goal has expanded some, it is still to offer the best chiropractic care to my patients. The technique that I use most often in my practice is Diversified, although I am familiar with many other techniques. If you have a certain technique that you like, let me know.

Dr. Paul Asks some important questions of interest to Kenner residents - Chiropractor Kenner Dr. Paul Asks...

Can those with osteoporosis get chiropractic care?
Of course. When developing a care plan, we consider the unique circumstances of each patient. There are many ways we can adjust the spine. The chiropractic method we select will be best suited to your age, size and unique situation.
What controls every cell, tissue and organ of your body?
DNA? Wrong. Immune system? Wrong? Hormones? Wrong. It's your nervous system, consisting of your brain, spinal cord and all the nerves of your body. When a chiropractor sees a Kenner patient with say, stomach problems, we want to know why the brain is unable to properly control and regulate the stomach. Which prompts us to examine the nervous system—the focus of chiropractic care.
